SADLY, there are MANY unethical people out there. Lonnee was burned, bullied and boo-hoo'd for quite some time afterward, as well.

Look for someone who:
Adds author names in the table of contents. One competitor excluded 30 writers' names and only listed their chapter titles. Make sure you get credit in the table of contents.
Gives author's credit by naming them formally on Amazon (many do not)
Trains you. After all, if you knew how to do this you would have done it by now.
Encourages your creativity. Getting emails with your writing red-lined is discouraging to most people.
Shows you how to craft your message in a way that markets your business without being salesy.
Guides you. Mandate limits like "Only 5 sentence paragraphs" squash budding creativity.
Does not bind you into a contract. It's a service not a life sentence. Also, make sure you are allowed to mention your other books and experiences in your bio or story.
Leads with their passion to help you, and follows through. There are plenty who say but do not do what they promise. Examine their track record for putting authors like you FIRST.
Demonstrates INTEGRITY: if they claim to be a 20x Best Selling Author, ask to see all 20 of their books. Unless they have personally written 20 books, their INTEGRITY is skewed. WATCH OUT. They are misleading you from the start. Why stretch the truth?
And lastly, don't worry about people in your book stealing your idea. They are focused on their own vision and calling. Sure, there are idea thieves out there, but you cannot let them stop you in life.
